Dan Perez and his fiancé, Rebecca Garcia, put the finishing touches on the new River Lights Café that they opened on Saturday, September 22, 2018. The café is located next door to Perez’s tax office and features outdoor seating for breakfast and lunch overlooking the Mispillion river.
“I purchased the building because I thought it would be a good way to connect my tax office,” Perez said. “Then, I met this beautiful woman and she told me she had experience in the restaurant business. I told her I owned a building right on the river that would be perfect for a little café. I brought her to see it and she fell in love with it.”
Garcia worked for 14 years at the Army-Navy Club in Alexandria, Virginia and at a school cafeteria for seven years in Falls Church, Virginia. She enjoys spending her time planning the menu which includes some of the dishes she learned to make while growing up in Mexico.
“We have typical breakfast and lunch foods,” Garcia explained. “Things like pancakes, French toast, eggs, bacon, even huevos rancheros and other Mexican dishes. We also offer fresh baked goods.”
The restaurant is more of a carry-out location, although there is seating both inside and outside. The couple offers good food with good service at affordable prices. All of the menu items are homemade. Perez felt that the area where the restaurant is located needed some improvement and feels that the new café brings more people to the area.
“We want the residents of Milford and others who pass through the town to have a place to visit and feel at home,” Garcia said. “We want a place where they can enjoy a coffee or homemade breakfast while enjoying this beautiful view in a cozy place. Our menu has a wide variety of breakfast and lunch foods at affordable prices along with a stunning view of the river.”
